About this tour

Unleash your adventurous spirit with an action-packed journey through the iconic Garden Route, an explorer’s paradise brimming with thrilling experiences and natural wonders. Indulge daily in 3 delicious South African meals while partaking in the most incredible and memorable adventure activities that the aptly named Garden Route has to offer.

We start the tour with a scenic drive taking in views of the most spectacular beaches in South Africa. We will stop to bask on the unspoiled beach of Victoria Bay to enjoy a picnic lunch and a swim in the sea before reaching our first destination Plettenberg Bay. Using Plettenberg Bay as a base we will explore the majestic Harkerville Forest for a day, dive into the deep blue alongside sharks, seals and other vibrant marine life and navigate the untamed beauty of the Keurbooms River to enjoy a picnic far up stream under the canopy of giant yellowwood trees.

Departing Plettenberg Bay we will travel to the famous Addo Elephant National Park to enjoy a real African Safari. Staying at the park we will fall asleep to the sounds of nature surrounding us and dream of the many sightings of wildlife for the day. Addo Elephant National Park is the third largest national park in South Africa and home to the Big 5 (Lion, Rhinoceros, Elephant, Leopard and the mighty Cape Buffalo). From the small Flightless Dung Beetles to the hundreds of grey giants, the park was established to protect them all.

After our unforgettable safari we will travel to Port Elizabeth for more scuba diving adventures. Although not a tropical diving location Port Elizabeth has colourful reefs and shipwrecks where we will encounter Ragged Tooth Sharks, dolphins, seals, penguins and if you are lucky during our dives even whales.

From Port Elizabeth we travel the scenic Garden Route to Mossel Bay where you will feel the adrenaline rush as you experience the world’s longest over the ocean zipline, cage diving with Great White Sharks and then finish this part of the trip with an exhilarating night dive. For the final leg of the tour we will travel to Oudtshoorn to venture into the depths of the legendary Cango Caves and spend our final night enjoying the beautiful sea views at Wilderness. With every adventure you’ll also indulge in warm South African hospitality ensuring the perfect balance of exhilaration and relaxation.

Meet at George airport at 1PM. We take the scenic road along the famous and breathtaking Garden Route to Plettenberg Bay. We will stop along the way at Victoria Bay for a beach braai (barbeque) and to swim in the spectacular waves of Victoria Bay, a popular surfing destination on the Garden Route.

There will be a braai (barbeque) with a sea view for dinner at our Plettenberg Bay accommodation.

Day 2 Harkerville Hike

Start the day with a hearty breakfast before setting off to hike the Harkerville. This hike is a perfect blend of indigenous rainforest and rugged coastline.

We will enjoy a picnic lunch on the hike in one of the many serene and beautiful locations along the hike and return to Plettenberg Bay to relax and have dinner.

Day 3 Plettenberg Bay Scuba Diving

Breakfast will be ready early in the morning for us to leave for our two dives on this day. Plettenberg Bay boasts some of the finest coral reefs in South Africa where we have the chance of encountering inquisitive seals, dolphins and as many as 100 species of fish. With a large great white population there is even a chance of a lucky encounter with this incredible predator.

Dinner will be a traditional Cape Malay meal while enjoying views of the ocean. Guests will fall asleep to the sounds of the ocean outside their window.

Day 4 Canoeing the Keurbooms

The day will start with breakfast at our beach accommodation before we leave for the Keurbooms River. The Keurbooms River stretches from the ocean 85km inland to its source near Uniondale. Inaccessible to motor powered boats the river cuts through thick indigenous forest that is home to otters, fish eagles and the beautiful Knysna Loerie, amongst many others.

We will find the perfect idyllic beach along the route where we will enjoy a picnic under giant yellowwood canopies. After our relaxed canoeing trip, we will spend the afternoon on one of Plettenberg Bay’s many beaches before dinner.

Dinner will be a braai with beautiful sea views.

Day 5 Discovering the Addo Elephant National Park

After breakfast we bid farewell to the beautiful Plettenberg Bay and travel further along the scenic Garden Route to the Addo Elephant National Park. Addo is a very diverse wildlife conservation park and the third largest national park in South Africa. The park is home to the Big 5 with more than 600 Elephants, large herds of Cape Buffaloes, Lion, Leopard and the endangered South-Western Black Rhinoceros.

We will enjoy lunch in one of the many picnic spots in the reserve and then spend the afternoon driving around the park and viewing wildlife.

The day will end settling down around a campfire after a bushveld feast.

Day 6 Exploring Addo Elephant National Park

We will start the day early with a game drive and a picnic breakfast on the drive. Lunch will also be a picnic out in the bush enjoying views of nature and the wildlife. The game drive through the dense bushveld valleys of the Sundays River region is for the whole day with a professional safari operator with 4x4 transport. Pack your binoculars for spectacular game sightings. You may even get to see the unique Flightless Dung Beetle, found almost exclusively in this park.

The park includes a large portion of ocean giving it marine protection status. The coastal section of the park includes islands that are home to the world’s largest breeding populations of Cape Gannets and the second largest breeding population of African Penguins.

Dinner will be served back at camp, followed by a campfire before bed.

Day 7 Port Elizabeth Scuba Diving

We will enjoy a light breakfast on the road to Port Elizabeth.

There are many spectacular dive locations around the coastal city of Port Elizabeth. We will carefully select two dives with the guidance of well-established dive charters in the city. We can choose from wrecks to reef dives, shark alleys to wall dives. There is an abundance of dive sites for every diver.

We can choose shore entries or boat dives. Whichever the group will enjoy most and in line with diver qualifications.

After an amazing day of diving, we will retire to our ocean view accommodation to enjoy a beautiful sunset and braai.

Day 8 Zipline Experience in Mossel Bay

We will depart Port Elizabeth after breakfast and continue exploring the breathtaking Garden Route. On route we will stop at the magnificent Storms River to dip our feet on our way to Mossel Bay.

Lunch will be at Mossel Bay Zipline where you will experience the thrill of the longest over the ocean zipline in the world. After this memorable activity we will relax and enjoy sea views and a dinner at our lovely Mossel Bay accommodation.

Day 9 Ocean Thrills at Mossel Bay

The day starts early at the well-established and popular shark cage diving operator in Mossel Bay. There is a large great white population in the waters of Mossel Bay and it is a famous destination for cage diving and regular sightings of these most beautiful oceanic predators.

After lunch we will return to our accommodation to relax and enjoy dinner. After dinner we will return to the ocean for an exhilarating night dive.

Day 10 Caving the Cango Caves

After a good night’s rest following a day packed with oceanic thrills and excitement, we will leave for Oudtshoorn after a hearty breakfast. The stark contrast of Oudtshoorn to the locations visited during the tour is striking! Oudtshoorn is a town found in the Klein Karoo which is a semi-desert area and is home to the Cango Caves.

The Cango Caves are one of the several wonders of Africa and a cultural and natural landmark of South Africa. The group will decide on which tour they would like to enjoy. Lunch will be in Oudtshoorn following our memorable caving expedition and from there we will travel back to the lush paradise known as the Garden Route.

The last night of the tour will be spent in stunning beach accommodation at the spectacular Wilderness Beach. Guests will reminisce about their amazing adventure and bid farewell to the beautiful Garden Route having sundowners and a fish braai while the sun sets over the South Atlantic Ocean.

Day 11 Return to George Airport
