We have covered what you will need to bring along for the hiking component of any of our adventure tours in Hiking Breathtaking African Landscapes. Over and above the items for hiking there are several items that you should not forget to pack.Â
- Your passport and visa/s. We have attached lists for visitors requiring visas for the various locations on our tours. Please be sure to apply for your visa well in advance.
- Your favourite diving equipment. We always dive with computers and encourage other divers to do so too. Bring your computer along. If you don’t have one, we are more than happy to do tables with you on the beach or over breakfast. The operators that we partner with do have quality reliable gear for hire and this is included in our packages.
- A dive computer and surface marker buoy are essential for Protea Banks.
- Bring along your dive certification cards. Certain tours require specific certification levels and various courses are available whilst booking. Please take note of the ‘dive qualifications’ for each tour.
- Bank cards. There are lovely restaurants at many of our tour locations, and don’t forget about the great souvenirs. All major cards are accepted for these purchases.
- Binoculars and a camera to capture award winning photographs of our spectacular landscapes and wildlife.
- Bathing suits are an absolute must. The famous dive locations we have selected for our tours are suitable for swimming and diving all year round.
- Pack clothing for the season you visit. Even though the dive locations have fine to very hot weather throughout the year, our inland locations, especially the Drakensberg mountains, do get cold in winter. There is snow on the Drakensberg mountains in winter.
- Weather also varies per region in South Africa. Read up on the weather conditions before you visit.
- We highly recommend that you have travel insurance and/or comprehensive medical insurance in case of an emergency. It is necessary to provide us with this information before you arrive so that we can assist in ensuring you have access to private healthcare facilities and services.
The alternative is government healthcare facilities where you may not receive specialised treatment, especially in the event of a diving related emergency. It’s always advisable to get dive accident cover from Divers Alert Network (DAN).
- Consult a health-care professional for advice on the risks of Malaria and preventing Malaria.
Malaria is endemic in the Lowveld of Mpumalanga and in Limpopo (including the Kruger Park and private game reserves which make these provinces so popular with travellers). In KwaZulu Natal malaria is endemic on the Maputaland coast and over the border into Mozambique.Â
As mentioned above please consult a health-care professional for the latest advice on malaria prophylaxis as it changes regularly. City centres like Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town are free from malaria and safe for travellers of all ages.
