Ponta d’Ouro which means “tip of gold” in Portuguese is a quaint seaside village in the extreme south of Mozambique on the Mozambique channel. It is rather untouched and unspoilt, a quiet tropical paradise with beautiful weather all year round.
This wonderful village surrounded by casuarinas trees, sand dunes and the sea is known as a diving mecca and also as a surfing hot spot. In the summer months generally from October to December, turtles come on to the beach to lay their eggs, and in the winter whale watching is a popular attraction.
There are a number of world class dive operators based at Ponta do Ouro and with the sub tropical weather we experience spectacular diving at all times of the year. The area offers diving for all levels of diver. Most sites are just a short boat trip from the beach and there are about 17 different reefs to choose from.
Ponta d’Ouro is renowned for its colourful coral, game fish and invertebrates, Whale Sharks, hammerhead sharks and Manta Rays. In winter there is a chance of whale encounters while out diving.
While not diving, or swimming with dolphins, immerse yourself in Mozambique style relaxation and enjoy a famous Mozambican siesta while listening to the calming sounds of the Indian Ocean.
